God is the Rock

“The country is still reeling from several sad events,” writes Deacon Dave Seibert, pastoral life coordinator at St. Theresa Parish in Evansville, including the bombings at the Boston Marathon, the explosion in Waco, Texas and the severe flooding in parts of the Midwest. “Our reactions move through a variety of emotions: shock, fear, anger and helplessness.”

“These are moments that can be truly Catholic. We don’t understand, and may never understand, why or how these awful events occur. We realize how much is out of our control in the world around us. All of us feel like victims when these catastrophes occur. And we all look for something, or someone, to cling to, to return a sense of normalcy and control to our life.

“These are moments when it becomes clear that God is the Rock, the only stability we have.”
