Important people in the parish

“Religious Education teachers are some of the most important people in our parish!" writes Shirley Jeffers, coordinator of religious education at the four Martin County parishes.

“Those who are willing to step forward, share their faith, give of their time, and have the patience to work with the kids are a special group of people! Without them, the future of our kids would be very uncertain and our Catholic faith and traditions would not be passed to from one generation to the next.

“We know the first teachers in a child’s life are the parents. And many times, the grandparents. Those parents who make Mass and prayer a priority for their families are truly doing a good job and what God asks of us.

“But so often, kids in religion class do not attend Mass and do not know their prayers. This is a real challenge for our religion teachers. They become the ‘primary teachers’ for these students.”
