Investing in candidates as well as in Haiti
The sacrament of Confirmation confers special graces of the Holy Spirit upon the person being confirmed, according to the newsletter at Precious Blood Parish in Jasper, “just as graces were granted to the Apostles on Pentecost. It roots us more deeply as children of God and unites us more firmly to Christ . . . . Service to others is a large part of this deeper relationship with God.”
In response to this calling the Confirmation candidates at both Precious Blood and Holy Family parish in Jasper were each entrusted with $10 and challenged to increase these “talents” for the benefit of the people in Haiti.
Several people donated to this fund, saying they were “investing in each candidate as well as in Haiti.”
The candidates raised over $1,000 for the people of Haiti, a return of over three to one. Projects initiated by the candidates included gift wrapping, bake sales and lawn and garden work.

Deacon Michael Jones, St. Peter Parish, Montgomery, and All Saints Parish, Cannelburg, was ordained Aug. 30, 2003.
