Bishop’s administrative assistant named

Tim McGuire, diocesan chief operating officer, writes, “A few weeks ago, Lynda Provence announced her retirement, effective Oct. 1, 2013. Since this time, I, along with others, have been engaged in a search to find Lynda’s replacement. Happily, the search is complete. It is my pleasure to announce that Renee Werner has accepted the position of administrative assistant to Bishop Thompson. Some of you may know Renee. Currently, she is the accounting information specialist at Catholic Charities.

“Renee, her husband, Don, and her two sons are members of St. Joseph Parish in Vanderburgh County. In addition to working at Catholic Charities for the last 10 months, she has over 16 years of experience in a variety of office administrative positions. To assist with the transition process, Renee wil work with Lynda at the Catholic Center on Sept. 6 and 13, and two full weeks prior to Lynda’s departure, Oct. 1, 2013.”

Anniversary of ordination

Father David Fleck, pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, and St. Vincent de Paul Parish, both in Vincennes, and Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Petersburg, and administrator pro tempore at Sacred Heart Parish, Vincennes, and St. Philip Neri Parish, Bicknell, was ordained to the priesthood Sept. 5, 1975.

 

2013 youth awards at Holy Family

The following 2013 graduates at Holy Family School in Jasper received these awards:

• The Young Christian award was presented to Johnny Bounds and Claire Eby.

Johnny’s classmates say of him, “He is a trustworthy person. He is respectful and fun and tries to include everyone. He lives the life of a good Catholic.”

Clair’s classmates have this to say of her, “She is deserving of this award because she is a good friend who would help anyone who needs it. She is trustworthy and honest. She has faith and takes is seriously.”

• Alyssa Lueken received the Daughters of the American Revolution award.

• Johnny Bounds received the Blessed Pope John Paul II award for excellence in religion.

• Tessa Hemmerlein received the St. Benedict award for overall eighth grade student.

Providence Sister Mary Mundy, pastoral associate at Holy Rosary Parish, Evansville, celebrates her birthday Sept. 5.

Providence Sister Betty Koressel, pastoral associate at Precious Blood Parish, Jasper, celebrates her birthday Sept. 8

Lynn Will, parish catechetical leader at Blessed Sacrament Parish, Oakland City, celebrates her birthday Sept. 8.

 

Music minister

Nathan Winstead is the new music director at Holy Cross Parish in Fort Branch. He holds a bachelor of music degree from the University of Evansville.

 

Welborn Baptist Foundation award

St. John the Baptist School in Newburgh has been chosen to receive a three-year HEROES grant from Welborn Baptist for the 2013-2014 school year. HEROES stands for Healthy, Energetic, Ready, Outstanding, Enthusiastic Schools.

St. John principal Elizabeth Flatt will assist the efforts of Katie Whetstine, a kindergarten teacher, who will also serve as the school’s wellness coordinator.
