Our Lady of Hope Church in Washington celebrated its fifth anniversary as a parish on August 24.  A Mass and cookout for 500 took place at the parish.

The parishes of St. Simon and St. Mary in Washington became Our Lady of Hope  on  Aug. 31, 2008.

During the Aug. 24 dinner, parishioners received copies of the first parish pictorial directory of Our Lady of Hope to commemorate the occasion.

“Our Catholic presence within the Washington area has spanned nearly two centuries,” said Father Gordon Mann, pastor of Our Lady of Hope. “Tens of thousands of Masses have been offered during this time, and more than a million visitors have spent time in our Eucharistic Adoration chapel from the date of the merger to today.

“The list of sacramental receptions is beyond millions time since St. Mother Theodore Guerin and Father Simon Bruté walked our campus,” Father Mann added. “This parish’s current members, through their sacrifices to come together as a new church, have gained for the Church – both here and in the world – the ability to continue to spread the Gospel of Christ until Jesus returns in His glory to take us to paradise.”
