Our own journey

The recent Gospels of Jesus on his journeys “can perhaps give us a clue about how we are to accomplish our own journey,” writes Deacon David Seibert, pastoral life coordinator at St. Theresa Parish in Evansville.

“Jesus’ goal was clear and his determination was set but he did not move along oblivious to those around him. His path was filled with people he stopped to heal, to visit and to teach. It was not a trip filled with blurred cars being passed on the interstate as he hurried to reach his destination. He made a difference to the people he met along the way all the while moving forward.

“A question we should ask ourselves is whether we have made a difference, in a positive way, to the people we meet on our own journeys. At the end of our journey will we be able to look back and see those people that we helped? Will we be able to say we made a difference in the lives of those we met that may have helped them on their own journeys? All of us stray from the route we are destined to take. It seems that we are all called to give encouragement and directions sometimes when we meet someone who has lost their way. Most of all we don’t want to look back at a trail of wreckage that marks our path through life.

“As we make our way through life, we should keep in mind not only our destination but how we get there. This time of transition seems to be a good time to reflect on what we are doing now as much as where we are going.”
