The kindergarten students at Westside Catholic School in Evansville offer tips on preparing turkey for the holiday, thanks to a little help from their teacher Carol Spillman.

• Nate Keplinger: Nate would go to Schnucks to buy it. Then he would carve it by cutting the bones off. Before cooking it he has to cut off all of the fat and put salt on it. He would get the stove ready by turning the knob half way. The turkey would have to weigh five pounds and cook in the stove for one minute. He would know it was done when the oven beeps, and would also serve pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes and green beans with it.

• Parker Lewis: Parker would have to go hunting in the woods wherever he saw turkey scratches at. He would shoot it with a bow and arrow or a gun. He would then take off all of his feathers and add salt. He would hope it weighed 8 pounds, and would cook it in a pan in the stove at 10 degrees for one minute. He knows it’s finished cooking when he hears the beeper. He would also serve bratwurst with it.

• Jacob Wathen: Jacob would get in his car to go to a store to buy the turkey. He would come back home and wash it, put water in a pan and put it in the oven. He knows the oven would have to be steaming hot to cook it. It would cook for one hour and he would know it was done when he cut into it. He would also serve mashed potatoes and corn.

• Elly Bullock: Elly would go to the refrigerator to get it. She wants it to weigh five pounds. She would put it on a plate and add pepper to it. She would wait for the oven to get very hot then put it in. It would bake for five minutes and she would know it was done when the oven beeped. She would also serve strawberries and apples.

• Layla Helfrich: Layla would go to the store to get it. She would look for an 11 pound turkey and knows she would have to buy it. She would then take it home and take it out of the package and add flavor like salt. She would turn the oven on medium and put the turkey in a bucket, then put it in the oven. It would take 20 minutes to cook and she would know that it was finished cooking when the oven made a sound. She would also serve macaroni and cheese, corn and cupcakes.

• Maddie Hinman: Maddie would go to the store to get her turkey. She would look for one that is 60 pounds After getting it home she will take it out of the package and wash it off. She does not think she needs to add salt or pepper. She will turn the oven on 90 degrees. Her turkey will be finished in eight minutes. She will serve bacon and sausage with it.

• Halle Dickerson: Halle will go to the store and get the 10 pound turkey. She knows she will have to take the feathers off, and add salt and pepper. She will turn the oven on five degrees and put the turkey on the rack to cook. She knows it will take 10 hours to cook and that the oven will make a sound when it is done. She will also serve tomatoes, baked potatoes, and macaroni and cheese with it.

• Kynna Hobgood: Kynna will go to the store to buy her turkey. She hopes she can find a five pound turkey. After she gets it home she will chop it up and add spices like salt and pepper. She will then put it in a pan and will cook it for four minutes. She knows it is done when the bell rings on the timer. She will also serve ham, potatoes, tomatoes, and cake.

He will turn the oven on really hot at five degrees. He knows he will not need to cut off the head because as it cooks in the pot it will melt away.
