Pilgrimage

“I recently went on a trip to Italy, and I first viewed this trip as a vacation,” writes Father Eugene Schmitt, pastor at St. Raphael Parish in Dubois and St. Peter Celestine Parish in Celestine.

“However, after a day or two of traveling through Italy, I could see this as a pilgrimage. A pilgrimage is a journey or search of moral or spiritual significance that is typically to a shrine or other holy place. We had traveled to St. Peters Basilica and went to the basement and saw the tomb of St. Peter.  We went to the Church of St. Paul outside the walls where St. Paul is buried. We saw many other relics and history of the Church.

“There will be a pilgrimage to Washington D.C. from January 19 to January 23. This is a journey being done to speak out in defense of all human life. Every year since 1973 when abortion was legalized there has been a March for Life to protest the taking of the unborn. We have adults and youth from our parishes who will attend. Let us pray for an end to abortion and a respect of all life from conception to its natural end.”

Saying thanks

Emily and Holly Earhart write in the parish bulletin at St. Theresa Parish in Evansville: “We would like to take a moment to thank you for your support which allowed us to attend the National Catholic Youth Conference. It was a wonderful weekend filled with faith and friendship. We attended many workshops that taught us about our faith, sharing our faith, and different aspects of the faith.

“We were surrounded by 23,000 other youth from across the country who want to share the faith with those around them. It was a powerful and moving weekend that we will not soon forget. Thank you for the opportunity and for letting us share our faith and learn more about it in a powerful way.”

Saying good-bye

In a recent bulletin at St. Philip Neri Church in Bicknell, Father David Martin writes, “As the time gets ever closer to my departure and move to Evansille, I thank all of you for supporting me during my time here with you.

“God has been working through you and I have witnessed your faith expressed in prayer and work . . . . Keep up the good work of revealing God’s presence by your expressions of faith.”
