Celebration meal

“For the past 15 years the parishioners of the Martin County Catholic Churches [St. Joseph Parish in Bramble, St. John Parish in Loogootee, St. Martin Parish in Whitfield, and St. Mary Parish in Shoals] have come together to prepare and deliver a Christmas Celebration meal to the needy residents, shut-ins and senior citizens of Martin and Daviess counties.

“This year’s meal scheduled for December 7 was moved to January 4 due to inclement weather,” reports Tom Walker. “Over the years 6,000 plus meals have been prepared and delivered.

“To prepare the meal each year, 27 turkeys, 20 dozen eggs, 40 loaves of bread, plus numerous homemade desserts are donated by parishioners. It is wonderful to see the smiles and hear the laughter of the many volunteers, youth and adult, as they work together to cook, package and deliver the meals.”

Eagle Scout

Boy Scouting’s highest rank, Eagle Scout, was presented to Blake Knies at a Court of Honor held at Holy Family Parish in Jasper. He is the son of Dan and Suzanne Knies of Jasper, and a member of Holy Family Troop 185 Venture Crew.

For his Eagle Scout project he refurbished the Ruxer Memorial at Holy Family. This involved replacing trees, transplanting lilies, planning crepe myrtles and adding landscaping rock.

Saying good-bye

In a letter to parishioners at the four Martin County parishes, Father Joseph Erbacher writes, “My journey with you and meeting your families and your children, providing for your spiritual needs, has been 10 years of joy and happiness – truly it has brought me great joy!!”

He asked them to accept “my most grateful appreciation for all you have given to me with the assurance of continued prayer for you as all members of ‘The MCCC’ travel together keeping that bright star of light, Jesus Christ, shining ever – so – bright.”

Father Erbacher has been named pastor at Holy Name Parish in Bloomfield and St. Peter Parish in Linton.
