The Nicene Creed

In the bulletin at St. Raphael Parish in Dubois and St. Peter Celestine Parish in Celestine, Father Eugene Schmitt writes, “Someone once asked me a question regarding the Nicene Creed, ‘Why do we bow our heads when we say the words, ‘For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became Man.’

“We bow our heads because this line refers to a most important moment in history, the Incarnation, where Jesus became man. This bow demonstrates a special reverence for this event.

“At Christmas and the Solemnity of the Annunciation, March 25, we are asked to genuflect at this time.”
