Saying good-bye

Father Kenneth Walker, pastor of the four Martin County parishes, writes, “It is with great sadness today that I announce that Nancy Summers, our Martin County Parishes secretary, will be retiring at the end of the month because of health reasons.

“We have been privileged to have had Nancy with us for almost four years. She has set a welcoming and supportive tone in the office which is so important.”

Father Walked added, “We will have a reception to honor Nancy after the 5 p.m. Mass on March 15.” It will be a time of appreciation “for all she has done for so many.”

Victoria Schnarr Strange has been hired as the new secretary.

Father John Brosmer, pastor at St. Joseph Parish, Dale, and St. Nicholas Parish, Santa Claus, and moderator and sacramental minister at Mary, Help of Christians Parish, Mariah Hill, celebrates his birthday March 23.

Father John Breidenbach, sacramental minister of St. Theresa Parish, Evansville, celebrates his birthday March 25.

 

Anniversaries of ordination

Father Joseph Erbacher, pastor at St. Peter Parish in Linton and Holy Name Parish in Bloomfield, was ordained to the priesthood March 25, 1972.

Father James Sauer, administrator at St. Matthew Parish, Mount Vernon, and Holy Angels, New Harmony, was ordained to the priesthood March 25, 1977.

Andrew Wibbeler, assistant principal at Washington Catholic Middle and High School, Washington, celebrates his birthday March 23.

 

State competition

Congratulations to Mater Dei High School students Stacia Reisinger, Taylor Goebel, Drew Folz and Riley Jarrell who all received gold ratings at the Indiana State School Music Association state vocal solo contest.

 

Wake-up Walk

Principal Lori Wissel writes in the newsletter at Flaget Elementary School in Vincennes, “Join us every morning between 7:15 and 7:30 for the Wake-up Walk. It is a great way to start your day!

“Parents are more than welcome to join their children. Walk, visit and listen to good music before beginning your busy day! This will put a smile on your face!”

 

ISSMA results for Holy Rosary

Ann Nagy, music teacher at Holy Rosary School in Evansville, reports that the ISSMA Piano/Vocal competition was held on February 1. Holy Rosary students who earned gold ratings and gold medals for their performances include piano soloists Scott Lu, Maria Laroia-Nguyen, Alex Maxfield and Max Meuth, and vocal soloist Olivia Wheatley.

Piano soloist Marissa Cabrera received a silver rating and a medal. 

On February 8, Holy Rosary students competed in the ISSMA Instrumental/Band Competition at North High School. Students who earned gold ratings and gold medals for their performances include flute soloists Kendyl Guzman and Anna Merris, oboe soloist Maria Laroia-Nguyen, clarinet soloists Lauren Koch, Audrey Hodgson, Maggie Krutchen, and Marissa Cabrera; alto saxophone soloists Scott Lu and Allen Rudolph; trumpet soloists John Helmerich and Ben Sauls; baritone soloist Allison Compton; xylophone soloist Alex Maxfield; snare soloist Ethan Fritts; trumpet soloists Jacob Girten and Evan Smith. Trombone soloist Aiden Krutchen earned silver ratings and medals.

Two Holy Rosary School eighth graders advanced to the state level of the ISSMA Piano/Vocal Competition in Indianapolis on Feb. 22. Olivia Wheatley sang a vocal solo “Who’ll Buy My Lavender” for which she received a gold rating and a perfect score. Max Meuth, a piano soloist, played  “Maleguena” for which he received a gold rating and a perfect score.
