Bishop Charles C. Thompson speaks with Source and Summit participants.

Bishop Charles C. Thompson had several young people tell him why and how they came to the 2014 Source Summit Retreat, held March 14-16 at Reitz Memorial High School. He then talked about the underlying whys and hows, which were in the March 16 Mass readings from Genesis, 2 Timothy and Matthew.

“Ultimately, we are here by the grace of God,” he said. “Where do we go from here? By the grace of God … the path of holiness.”

The bishop talked about how the Eucharist – the Source Summit of our faith – provides the grace we all must have to be joyful witnesses to the Gospel. “We are made in the image and likeness of God,” he said, “so there is something of God in each of us. We must be willing to suffer with Christ to be holy, and it is with the grace of the Eucharist that we are joyful witnesses.”

“Through the grace of the Eucharist,” he added, “we don’t lose sight of the promise of triumph over sin and death. Suffering and death are not the final words of the Cross.”
