On March 13, the Quilters Nest in Evansville donated more than 600 handmade pillowcases for pediatric heart patients at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.

Co-owner Mary Brass’s daughter-in-law, Kara, works on the unit. She wanted something to comfort her patients, so there was a “pillowcase blitz.” Volunteers were asked to make them for the young patients, and the original goal was 200 pillowcases.

Holly Yingling, left in the photo, co-owner of The Quilters Nest, presents the first pillowcase to young patient Aidan Vonderahe, 9, who is standing in front of St. Mary’s Lead Cardiac Sonographer Kara Brass, who is standing next to her mother-in-law, The Quilters Nest co-owner Mary Brass.
