Dr. Timothy A. Dickel, president of Evansville’s Mater Day High School, has announced that Darin Knight will become principal of the school on July 1. He has been serving as the school’s dean of students and assistant principal.

“We had several strong applicants for the position,” Dickel said in making the announcement, “but felt Darin’s leadership skills and strong history of service to our school made him the ideal candidate.” As principal, Knight will serve as the chief academic officer and will have direct oversight of academics, extracurricular activities, athletics and spirituality.

“I am honored and humbled to be named principal of Mater Dei High School,” Knight said.  “I look forward to building upon the many strengths of the school by focusing on spirituality and academic achievement.”

A member of the faculty of Mater Dei since 1992, Knight has been assistant principal and dean of students since 2007. He has a lengthy history as a Social Studies teacher, head varsity baseball coach and assistant varsity football coach.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Studies Secondary Education from the University of Evansville and a Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Oakland City University.  Knight also has received training to become a licensed School Safety Specialist.

Since 2012, he has served on the Corpus Christi School Education Commission.  Prior to teaching at Mater Dei, he was on the faculty at Cardinal Ritter High School in Indianapolis, Ind.

Knight and his family are members of Corpus Christi Parish.
