The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Lawrence A. Vieck Assembly of The Washington celebrated its 26th  RSVP  Vocation Appreciation Dinner on Feb. 27.  Designated seminarians, postulants and novices were recognized and each received $500 to assist with their educational expenses.

This year’s awards were presented by Rick Flynn, former Grand Knight of Washington Council 630 of the Knights of Columbus; Greg McCarty, Faithful Navigator of the Lawrence A. Vieck Assembly; and Maggie Tuggle, on behalf of the Washington Ladies Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.  Recipients of the $500 awards to assist in their education expenses included Jon Blaize, Rachel Geracitano, and Fletcher Kitchell, who was unable to attend.

Father Leo Kiesel and Father Donald Dilger were honored with special-recognition plaques to express gratitude for all of their help at Our Lady of Hope parish over the years.

Sir Knight Jerome Walker presented Father Gordon Mann a $2,200.00 contribution for Catholic education from the Lawrence A. Vieck Assembly.

Sir Knight Jeff Norris was the Master of Ceremonies, and Washington Deanery Dean Father Jim Koressel led the invocation.  Father Dilger provided a delightful presentation on “His Very Own Vocations Story” for close to 100 guests.

A talented group of students from Washington Catholic, under the direction of Katie Ulrich, provided vocal entertainment.  They are the same group of students who performed just a couple of months earlier at Disney World in Orlando, Fla.

This RSVP program originated in 1988, and has been a successful endeavor with the Washington and Linton Knights of Columbus. Father Michael Madden, pastor of St Peter Parish inLinton, succeeded Father Hillary Vieck, who was the brother of Father Lawrence A. Vieck, the assembly’s namesake.  Father Hillary died in 2008.

In 1987, then-Faithful Navigator Vaughn Garrett initiated a name change for the Washington Assembly, and it became the Lawrence A. Vieck Assembly. The Assembly consists of 65 members – 42 active members, 23 honorary life members. This Assembly celebrates its 66th year in 2014.
