Girl Scouting Awards Presented

Bishop Charles C. Thompson joins Scouts after a recognition ceremony at Good Shepherd Church in Evansville.

 

The Catholic Committee for the Girl Scouts of the Diocese of Evansville recently hosted a Mass celebrated by Bishop Charles C. Thompson. The Mass was concelebrated by Father Zach Etienne, pastor at Good Shepherd Parish in Evansville, and Deacon Charles Koressel who serves as the diocesan Girl Scout Chaplain.

At the Mass Bishop Thompson presented eleven middle school-aged girls the “Mary, the First Disciple” emblem, six fourth and fifth graders received the “I Live My Faith” emblem, and six third graders received the “Family of God” emblem. Ten third graders received their emblem at their parish on Girl Scout Sunday at St. Mary Parish in Ireland.

St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, an adult award, was awarded to Father Zach Etienne and Tonya Sander who attends St. Mary Parish in Ireland and who is a counselor for “Mary, the First Disciple.”

The girls who received the “Mary, the First Disciple” emblem are from Troops 243 and 198. They attend Holy Family, Precious Blood, and St. Joseph parishes, all in Jasper, St. Peter Celestine Parish in Celestine, and St. Mary Parish in Ireland. They include Alexia Ford, Kennedy Nicholson, Abbey Armstrong, Breann Mehringer, Adrienne Betz, Heather Gudorf, Emily Heim, Hannah Kleiser, Nicole Mehringer, Ashley Sander and Katelyn Sander.

The recipients of the “I Live My Faith” emblem are Payton Dilger, Troop 19, St. Ferdinand Parish, Ferdinand; Teresa Berneking and Anna Wampler, Troop 43, Holy Redeemer Parish, Evansville; Cydney Wathen, Troop 208, Holy Spirit Parish, Evansville, and Margaret Bassler and Claire Fox, Troop 260, Our Lady of Hope Parish, Washington.

“Family of God” emblems were presented to Albreanna O’Quinn, Troop 373, St. John the Apostle Parish, Evansville; Genevieve Lake, Troop 134, Corpus Christi Parish, Evansville; Ashlyn Dilger, Troop 16, St. Ferdinand Parish, Ferdinand; Sydney Davis and Kaley Will, Troop 218, Good Shepherd Parish, Evansville; and Elizabeth Schepers, Troop 47, St. Peter Celestine Parish, Celestine.

Troop 357 from St. Mary, Ireland also had 10 girls who received their emblem on Girl Scout Sunday at their parish. They incude Taryn Schmitt, Sydney Schmitt, Brianna Williams, Brenna Hildenbrand, Madison Heim, Rachel Hollinden, Cheyenne Scherle, Jasmin Mehringer, Karleigh LeMond, and Anna Underwood.
