Happy anniversary, Bishop Gettelfinger

Bishop Gerald A. Gettelfinger, fourth bishop of the Diocese of Evansville, was ordained to the priesthood May 7, 1961.

Benedictine Father Damian Schmelz, pastor at St. Henry Parish, St. Henry, celebrates his birthday May 7.

Deacon James King, St. Ferdinand Parish, Ferdinand, celebrates his birthday May 8.

Father Christopher Droste, associate pastor at Christ the King and Holy Spirit parishes, both in Evansville, celebrates his birthday May 10.

Father Robert Nemergut, a retired priest of the Diocese of Evansville, celebrates his birthday May 13.

Deacon Jose Garrido, Nativity Parish in Evansville, celebrates his birthday May 13.

 

Anniversary of ordination

Father Tony Ernst, director of newly ordained priests and pastor at Sts. Peter and Paul Parish, Haubstadt, Holy Cross Parish, Fort Branch, and St. Bernard Parish, Snake Run, was ordained to the priesthood May 9, 1998.

 

Deacon anniversary

Deacon Richard Preske, St. Boniface Parish, Evansville, was ordained May 9, 1981.

 

A huge success

“THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!  THANK YOU!” writes Vickie Wannemuehler in the parent newsletter at St. Matthew School in Mount Vernon.

The 5K was a HUGE success! We had over 100 participants, lots of great volunteers, and God blessed us with a beautiful day! Our total profit for this event was over $3,900!

“We want to say a huge THANK YOU to Tiffany Lindenschmidt, Shelley Hargrove and Jessica Temme for all their hard work and for chairing this event. We are already looking forward to next year’s race!”

 

Supervisor named

St. Mary’s Health announces that Jenna Alka has been named Clinic Supervisor for Occupational Medicine. In this role, she will supervise and coordinate the delivery of care between occupational medicine facilities and St. Mary’s at Work program. She will also oversee the daily operations of Occupational Medicine Clinic and On-Site Services.

 

Registration

Registration for the new St. John Parish in Loogootee is now underway. According to a notice in the parish bulletin, “It is important for all parishioners to register into the new parish so the merger can be effectively accomplished by the 1 July 2014 implementation date.”

Registration cards are available in all pews in all of the Martin County churches.

Members of the Merger Committee include Father Kenneth Walker, pastor, Deacon Bob Consley, Vicki Strange, Agnes Copper, Vonda Elliott, John Fegan, Bruce Hawkins, Dayne Holder, Tom McAtee, Leo Padgett, Dottie Potts, Jill Wininger and Kathy Wittmer.

 

Third at state

Members of the Speech Team at Mater Dei High School in Evansville captured a third place finish at the IHSFA state speech tournament.

Congratulations to Abigail Tenhumger, twelfth in poetry, and Jackie Gries, ninth in poetry.
