Thanking Quilters

Sharon Burns, director of Catholic Charities for the Diocese of Evansville, recognizes a number of quilters who worked on handmade baby quilts that went up for auction May 28 at St. James Church in Haubstadt. More than 80 handmade baby quilts – made by quilters from across the diocese – generated more than $21,000 as part of Catholic Charities’ first-ever fundraiser. The event at St. James included a supper of salad, soup and desert – simple offerings that Burns suggested would help those in attendance remember that Catholic Charities serves the poor. Before the auction, Burns presented the 20142 Mother Teresa Service Awards to Ellen Hegeman of Evansville’s Holy Spirit Parish (Evansville East Deanery), Robert Hildenbrand of Booneville’s St. Rupter Parish (Newburgh Deanery), and Dick and Zoe Cannon of Vincennes’ Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish (Vincennes Deanery).
