Young people from three Spencer County parishes – St. Bernard in Rockport, St. John Chrysostom in New Boston and St. Martin in Chrisney – worked more than 1,000 hours the week of June 9 on various projects that made up their 2014 Catholic Mission Adventure.

Brothers and sisters in Christ is the group’s formal name, although you hear the acronym – BASIC – more often. Approximately 30 BASIC members spent the week on a variety of activities, including volunteering and Crisis Connection and The Way; participating in a Habitat for Humanity home renovation; refurbishing a vehicle to provide transportation for a single mother; and completing a number of other home-repair and yard-work projects.

BASIC took mission trips to Mishiwaka, Ind., and Toledo, Ohio, in previous years, but group members decided to focus on the needs of their home county this year.
