Project Rachel
Every week in the parish bulletin at St. Peter Celestine Parish in Celestine and at St. Raphael Parish in Dubois, Father Eugene Schmitt writes a letter to his parishioners.
In a recent bulletin, he discussed the Project Rachel program.
“Some of you may wonder, ‘What ministries does the Church offer women who have had an abortion?’
“There is a program called ‘Project Rachael’ which Catholic Charities (812-423-5456) sponsors. This program is a retreat for women who have had an abortion and helps them heal from the ordeal. It has been offered in the Diocese of Evansville countless times.
“Catholic Charities also offers individual counseling for men and women affected by an abortion at St. Joe Parish in Jasper on a weekly basis. I am also available to help anyone who has gone through this experience.
“Another step in the process of healing from an abortion is the Sacrament of Reconciliation where God’s grace is present to help one know of the deep love and support that God wants to give at this time.”

Palliative Care Program
St. Mary’s Medical Center announces that the newest team member to the Palliative Care Program is Dr. Karl Sash.
He will begin performing palliative care consults as needed on patients with chronic or life-threatening conditions through the prevention, assessment and relief of pain and other physical, psychosocial and spiritual symptoms.

Ministry news
Sharon Burns, director of Catholic Charities and the Office of Hispanic Ministry, announces three new staff members:
• Josefina “Josie” Hughes is the new accounting/information specialist. She will manage accounts payable and receivable, payroll and database/information duties. “In addition she will serve as my administrative assistant. A native of Mexico, Josie is fluent in both English and Spanish.”
• Tom Wannemuehler, LCSW, is now the coordinator of counseling services. “He will oversee the professional development of the family services counselors, all counseling services (schools, individual, family and marital), and serve a few clients directly each week.
“Tom and his wife, Sarah, are diocesan natives, returning home. Tom has extensive experience with Catholic Charities (Diocese of Raleigh) and school counseling.”
• Adam Fierst has joined the Office of Hispanic Ministry team. He will serve as the translator and receptionist for the Office of Hispanic Ministry's office in Huntingburg for the summer. He will continue on a part-time basis when he returns to school in August.
“Adam has four years of study in Spanish and enjoyed a Spanish Immersion experience in Leon, Spain, last year.”
