Living In Freedom

During Lent 2014, St. Benedict Cathedral introduced a new women’s bible study, “Walking with Purpose.” Thirty-nine women from five parishes in the Diocese of Evansville completed the initial six-week course,  “Living in Freedom.”

Although it’s new to our diocese, “Walking with Purpose” is a national program active in more than 30 Catholic parishes across the country.  It began with a small group of women who wanted to meet other women and build a stronger relationship with Christ.

Like the broader national program, the 39 local women who participated in the Lenten study at St. Benedict were given the opportunity to form deeper personal relationships with Jesus Christ through their personal study and small group discussion. Ultimately, they were able to link their everyday challenges and struggles with the solutions given to them through the teachings of Christ and the Church.

This fall, St. Benedict Cathedral is offering its first full-length “Walking With Purpose” course, “Choosing the Better Part : Walking with Purpose 101.”

“Choosing the Better Part” touches on all aspects of faith and encourages us to deepen our relationship with Christ. The course will explore crucial questions about our faith such as: Who is Jesus Christ, and why is He interested in my friendship? Why does a good God allow suffering and evil? What is grace and what difference does it make in my life?

This program is for everyone – those who have attended bible study regularly; those who have never opened a bible; those who are college students or single parents – or empty-nesters. Attendees get the opportunity to learn from each other, and no one is ever made to feel uncomfortable or out of place.

No previous experience is necessary to participate, and all women are welcome to join. “Walking with Purpose” doesn’t seek so much to strain women’s brains as it does to convert their hearts!

The 22-week program will start with a Connect Coffee at 6:30 p.m. CDT on Sept. 23, in the Woodward Center at St. Benedict Cathedral. Weekly small group sessions thereafter will be available from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays or Thursdays in the St. Benedict Cathedral Parish Center. Complimentary childcare will be available for the Connect Coffee and theweekly sessions.

Program registration is $80 through Sept. 1 and $100 after Sept. 1. Financial assistance also may be available.
