Donna Gish, a long-time employee of the Diocese of Evansville Office of Catechesis, was honored recently with a retirement luncheon at the Catholic Center in Evansville.

During her 17 years of service, Donna was both the assistant director and the acting director of the Office of Catechesis.

During the luncheon, diocesan Chief Operating Officer Tim McGuire thanked Donna for her service, noting her work with the late Benedictine Sister Geraldine Hedinger and with Kathy Gallo, both directors of the office. "Thank you for doing a wonderful job," he said.

Bishop Charles C. Thompson noted that catechists "form the minds and also the hearts" of those they serve, adding it's often a "thankless job." He thanked her for all of her efforts, "seen and unseen."

The Church, he said, has been enriched by "all you have done for us."

At the end of the luncheon, Gish said, "It has been my pleasure to work here since Sept. 1, 1997."

She concluded her remarks with a humorous story, and then adapted it to fit the luncheon which was attended by family, friends and co-workers. "That's how I feel about working here with all of you. I love you too."
