In 1914, lifelong St. Boniface Parish member Jacob Fischer witnessed the dedication of Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto which is located under the church.

Fisher personally underwrote the $10,000 cost of construction to ensure that visitors could enjoy a quiet, peaceful place to pray to the mother of God.

A parish committee that focuses on the grotto and historic preservation opens the it to the public annually during Sundays in May and October – months dedicated to Mary.

Parishioner Bob Koressel, who serves on the committee and is intimately involved with its ongoing work, said that schools and other groups can arrange tours by contacting St. Boniface. One photo shows the altar area of the grotto.

Make a point to visit the grotto during its last remaining public viewings this month – from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., on Oct. 19 and 26.
