Pastoral formation of seminarians

The Catholic Community of North Spencer collaborates annually with St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in the pastoral formation of their seminarians.

According to the parish newsletter, “Each year St. Meinrad sends us third and fourth year seminarians to participate in what is called ‘supervised ministry.’

“In third year theology, the seminarians begin an internship in a parish, where they will minister throughout the remainder of their studies at St. Meinrad. The two-year internship provides seminarians with experience and insight concerning the day-to-day life of a parish. Typically, the third year theology students have a catechetical focus to their ministry whereas the fourth year student is a transitional deacon who will ‘learn the ropes’ with his mentor, Father John [Brosmer, pastor]."

The seminarians include

• Deacon Aaron Foshee who is from the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City.

• Roy Kafula who is a native of Lusaka, Zambia. In 2000, he entered religious life with the Missionaries of Mariannhill, and made his perpetual profession in Rome where he continued studies in philosophy and theology. He is currently studying for the Diocese of Amarillo, Texas.

• Dr. Joseph Chan who is a native of the Philippines. Before joining the seminary in 2010, he was an internist trained in hospice and palliative care. He is studying for the Diocese of Little Rock, Ark.

The three parishes in the Catholic Community of North Spencer include St. Joseph in Dale, Mary, Help of Christians in Mariah Hill and St. Nicholas in Santa Claus.
