When our Lord was born

Father James Koressel, pastor at St. Peter Parish in Montgomery, writes, “As we approach the feast of Christmas, I am reminded of the remarkable condition of peace throughout the known world when our Lord was born.

“To my knowledge, I don’t recall our world ever being blessed in such a way since. The world, our nation and our local community have recently experienced things that have been a possible source of division. I ask each of you to do what you can by way of prayer and or fasting between now and Christmas to heal our world, our nation and our community of division.”

Happy Birthday!

Father Crispine O. Adongo, a priest from Kenya serving in the Glenmary Home Missions and associate pastor at Holy Rosary Parish in Evansville, celebrates his birthday Dec. 25.

Deacon Thomas Lehman, St. Boniface Parish, Evansville, celebrates his birthday Dec. 29.

Top Ten

An essay, More Than Looks, by Mater Dei senior Becca DeCarli has been selected as a Top Ten winner by Creative Communication.

“In high school,” she explained, “it can seem like appearance is everything. Teenagers, especially girls, can feel extremely self conscious, so I tried to write an essay that made my peers realize that the value of a person is so much more than what they look like.”

Happy Birthday!

Connie Mathies, parish catechetical leader at St. Mary Parish, Ireland, celebrates her birthday Dec. 25.

RockLife

The high school Sunday evening program has been named RockLife, according to the parish newsletter at St. James Parish in Haubstadt.

“The references to the word ‘rock’ in the Scriptures are vast. Jesus’ parable of building the house on rock compared to sand, Jesus changing Simon’s name to Peter (meaning rock) and saying to him ‘upon this rock I will build my church.

“Even God the Father is often referred to as the Rock: God alone is my rock and salvation, my fortress; I shall never fail. Psalm 62:3.”

On Sunday nights activities include a “bit of everything; games, discussion, Scripture readings, video and faith sharing talks.

“It is our mission, hope and prayer that through this ministry, our teens will seek to build their lives on the ‘rock’ of Christ and his Church.”
