Reitz Memorial High School graduate Anna Hackert, a senior member of the University of Southern Indiana’s women’s basketball team, has tied the Screaming Eagles career record for “double doubles” – games in which she scored at least 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Hackert scored 16 points and grabbed 15 rebounds Jan. 29 in USI’s 67-53 road victory over McKendree University – her school-record-tying 40th game with a “double double.” At press time, Hackert had seven regular-season games left (with more anticipated in the Great Lakes Valley Conference and NCAA Division II postseason tournaments) to move past former USI all-American LeAnn Freeland.

“You think about what that number is,” USI head coach Rik Stein told reporter Dan Korb of the Evansville Courier & Press. “Forty is unbelievable.”

Hackert’s “double double” at McKendree marked her 15th of the season, one shy of the Scremaing Eagles’ single-season record of 16, held since 2003 by Africa Sherrod.

USI hosted Quincy University Feb. 5 in a 5:15 p.m. tipoff, and the team welcomes Truman State University for a 1 p.m. contest Saturday Feb. 7. The Screaminig Eagles also have home games on Feb. 19 against the University of Indianapolis and on Feb. 21 against St. Joseph’s College.
