The Daughters of Charity recently welcomed Father Henry Kuykendall, left, Father Ted Tempel and Father Jay Davidson as affiliates.

The Daughters of Charity of the province of St. Louise have welcomed Father Jay Davidson, Father Henry Kuykendall, and Father Ted Tempel, all priests of the Diocese of Evansville, as affiliates of the community. Sister Louise Gallahue, provincial, recently presided at a ceremony held at St. Vincent Residence.

Affiliates of the Daughters are persons whose lives reflect a commitment to the Vincentian charism of Service. The Daughters honored Fathers Davidson, Kuykendall and Tempel for their exceptional commitment to persons living in poverty, and their collaboration with the Daughters.

Father Davidon is pastor of St. Anthony Padua Parish and St. Joseph Parish (City), both in Evansville. He is one of the founding fathers of CAJE in Evansville. Many outreach ministries have found a home at the Center for Family Life at St. Anthony Parish. These have included the St. Anthony Soup Kitchen, United Caring Shelter, Big Brothers/ Big Sisters, and a shelter for homeless veterans.

Fr. Kuykendall recently retired as from pastoral ministry. As pastor of Evansville’s Nativity Parish, he welcomed the growing Hispanic population in the area and opened the doors of Nativity as a place of ministry to their many needs. These included English as Second Language classes, the Clothes Closet, and Spanish Faith Formation classes. He served as a caring pastor to Hispanic families who have few resources in the Evansville area.

Also retired from pastoral ministry in the diocese, Father Tempel cares for the voiceless in our society. He provides or finds resources for whatever assistance a person needs. He is especially present to the seriously ill and dying. He presides at many funerals for those without resources. He is all-inclusive in his ministry and his love.
