Respect Life Sunday 2015
Dear Friends in Christ:
The 2015-16 Respect Life Program materials provided to each parish throughout the diocese respond to the needs of parishes, schools and other ministries for basic presentations of life issues. This year’s theme, Every Life is Worth Living, applicable to the wide spectrum of life issues, is especially timely in light of the renewed push for legalizing assisted suicide in many states. The printed materials can be viewed at www.usccb.org/respectlife and are available for purchase by calling 866 582-0943. As provided to parishes, materials are available in English and Spanish.
As promoted in The Message and parishes, our Diocesan Respect Life Celebrations will take place Wednesday, October 7 (in Spanish), and Thursday, October 8 (in English), at Nativity Church, 3635 Pollack Avenue, Evansville. Both will begin with 5:30 p.m. (CDT) Mass, followed by a catered dinner and keynote address on immigration and human trafficking by Archbishop Thomas G. Wenski of Miami, who currently serves as the Chairman of the U.S. Conference of Bishops’ (USCCB) Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development. We are honored to have Archbishop Wenski join us for these celebrations.
In his Encyclical Letter, “Laudato Si’”(“On Care for Our Common Home”), Pope Francis makes clear that each person’s relationships with God, others, self and creation are intertwined. It is imperative that authentic discipleship to Jesus Christ be grounded in a spirit of gratitude that recognizes all life and creation as gifted by God.
Upholding the life and dignity of each and every human person from the moment of conception to natural death, one of the key principles of Catholic social teaching, is paramount to our Catholic faith and Christian witness. I strongly encourage everyone to pray, reflect, make use of the program materials and take the time to join in our Diocesan Respect Life Celebration of Life. Every life matters. Each and every human being, as created in the image of God, is sacred.

Queridos Amigos en Cristo:
Los materiales del Programa Respeto a la Vida de 2015-2016 proporcionados a cada parroquia de la diócesis responden a las necesidades de las parroquias, escuelas y otros ministerios para presentaciones básicas de temas acerca de la vida. El tema de este año, Cada Vida Merece Vivir, aplicable a la amplia variedad de temas acerca de la vida, es especialmente oportuno a la luz de la renovada presión de legalizar el suicidio asistido en muchos estados. Los materiales impresos se pueden ver en www.usccb.org/respectlife y están disponibles para su compra llamando al teléfono (866) 582-0943. Según lo provisto a las parroquias, los materiales están disponibles en Inglés y Español.
Como se ha promovido en el periódico The Message y en las parroquias, nuestra Celebraciones Diocesanas Respeto a la Vida tendrán lugar el Miércoles, 07 de Octubre (en Español) y el Jueves, 08 de octubre (en Inglés), en la Iglesia de la Natividad (3635 Pollack Avenue) en Evansville. Ambos comenzarán a las 5:30 p.m. (CDT) con la Misa, seguido de una cena y la presentación del tema sobre la inmigración y el tráfico humano por el Arzobispo Thomas G. Wenski de Miami, quien actualmente se desempeña como Presidente del Comité de Justicia Domestica y Desarrollo Humano de la Conferencia de Obispos de Estados Unidos (USCCB). Nos sentimos honrados de tener al Arzobispo Wenski con nosotros y de que nos acompañe para estas celebraciones.
En su Carta Encíclica, "Laudato Si '" ("Sobre el Cuidado de la Casa Común"), el Papa Francisco deja claro que las relaciones de cada persona con Dios, con los demás, consigo mismo y con la creación están entrelazados. Es fundamental que el discipulado auténtico a Jesucristo esté basado en un espíritu de gratitud que reconoce toda vida y la creación como un regalo de Dios.
La defensa de la vida y la dignidad de cada persona humana desde el momento de la concepción hasta la muerte natural, uno de los principios fundamentales de la doctrina social Católica, es de suma importancia para nuestra fe Católica y para el testimonio Cristiano. Le recomiendo muchísimo a todos orar, reflexionar, hacer uso de los materiales del programa y tomar tiempo para unirse a nuestra Celebración Diocesana Respeto a la Vida. Cada vida importa. Cada y todo ser humano, como creado a imagen de Dios, es sagrado.
