The theme for the 2016-17 Respect Life Program, situated within the Jubilee Year of Mercy, is Moved by Mercy. As in previous years, materials have been provided to each parish throughout the diocese to be used by parishes, schools and other ministries for basic presentations of life issues. The printed materials can be viewed at www.usccb.org/respectlife and are available for purchase by calling (866) 582-0943. As provided to parishes, materials are available in English and Spanish.
As promoted in The Message and parishes, our Diocesan Respect Life Celebrations will take place on Thursday, October 20, at Good Shepherd Church (2301 N. Stockwell Road), in Evansville. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Carolyn Woo, President and CEO of Catholic Relief Services, as our keynote presenter. The event will begin with Mass at 5:30 PM (Central Time), followed by a catered dinner and keynote address on poverty, injustice and solidarty with the poor in the context of Catholic teaching on human dignity.
In his Bull of Indiction declaring the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, Misericordiae Vultus, Pope Francis exhorts us to keep the doors of both our churches and our hearts open to each and every human being. He states, “Mercy is the very foundation of the Church’s life…nothing in her preaching and in her witness to the world can be lacking in mercy.” (MV #10) Our witness to Jesus Christ as the face of the Father’s mercy must be grounded in a spirit of gratitude that recognizes all life and creation as gifted by God.
Upholding the life and dignity of each and every human person from the moment of conception to natural death, one of the key principles of Catholic social teaching, is paramount to our Catholic faith and Christian witness. I strongly encourage everyone to pray, reflect, make use of the program materials and take the time to join in our Diocesan Respect Life Celebration of Life. Every life matters. Each and every human been, as created in the image of God, is sacred.

El tema para el Programa de Respeto a la Vida 2016-17, situado dentro del Año Jubilar de la Misericordia, es Movido por la Misericordia. Al igual que en los años anteriores, los materiales han sido proveídos a cada parroquia en toda la diócesis para ser utilizados por las parroquias, escuelas y otros ministerios para presentaciones básicas de temas de la vida. Los materiales impresos se pueden ver en www.usccb.org/respectlife y están disponibles para su compra llamando al (866) 582-0943. Tal como se proveyó a las parroquias, los materiales están disponibles en Inglés y Español.
Como se ha promovido en The Message y en las parroquias, nuestra Celebración Diocesana de Respeto a la Vida se llevará a cabo el Jueves 20 de Octubre, en la parroquia Good Shepherd (2301 N. Stockwell Road), en Evansville. Somos muy afortunados de tener a la Dr. Carolyn Woo, Presidente y CEO de Catholic Relief Services, como nuestra presentadora principal. El evento comenzará con una Misa a las 5:30 PM (Hora Central), seguido de una cena y una presentación sobre la pobreza, la injusticia y la solidaridad con los pobres en el contexto de la enseñanza Católica sobre la dignidad humana.
En su Bula de Convocación al declarar el Jubileo Extraordinario de la Misericorida, Misericordiae Vultus, el Papa Francisco nos exhorta a mantener las puertas de nuestras iglesias y nuestros corazones abiertos a todos y cada ser humano. Él afirma: "La misericordia es el fundamento mismo de la vida de la Iglesia...nada en su predicación y en su testimonio en el mundo puede faltar de misericordia" (MV # 10). Nuestro testimonio de Jesucristo como el rostro de la misericordia del Padre debe basarse en un espíritu de gratitud que reconoce toda vida y la creación como regalo de Dios.
La defensa de la vida y la dignidad de cada persona humana desde el momento de la concepción hasta la muerte natural, uno de los principios claves de la doctrina social Católica, es primordial para nuestra fe Católica y el testimonio Cristiano. Les animo a todos, encarecidamente, a orar, reflexionar, a hacer uso de los materiales del programa, y a tomar tiempo para unirse a nuestra Celebración Diocesana Respeto a la Vida. Cada vida importa. Todos y cada ser humano, creado a imagen de Dios, es sagrado.
