The Message invited parishes in the Diocese of Evansville to submit information about summer socials in 2017. Responses are published here, or available in pdf form to download by clicking here

MAY

May 27, Saturday, St. Francis Xavier Parish, Vincennes, “Des Fraises” Strawberry Festival, Old Cathedral Courtyard, 207 Church St, Vincennes, 7 a.m.-12 p.m. serving homemade French toast topped with delicious strawberry topping; homemade strawberry pies available for purchase; festival of events planned during the day.

JUNE

June 1, 2 & 3, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Holy Rosary Parish, Evansville, grounds open Thurs. 5-9 p.m., Fri. and Sat. 5-10 p.m.; serving cafeteria style pork chop or fried chicken dinners with made from scratch chicken and dumplings, dressing, green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, slaw and your choice of dessert each night 5-7:30 p.m.; handicap dining available in the Parish Hall along with a drive thru or carry out  (enter by Raben Tire); carnival rides, games for all ages, huge silent/chance auction, quilt raffle, food booths featuring festival food including a Latino food booth; car/cash raffle to win your choice of a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro 1LS Coupe, Colorado 2WD Ext. Cab Truck, Trax LS FWD SUV or  $20,000 plus four other cash prizes, tickets $25 each or seven for $100 before May 29.

June 4, Sunday, St. Joseph Parish, Jasper, grounds open 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; serving fried chicken or roast beef, corn or green beans, mashed potatoes and gravy, dressing, slaw, bread, dessert and beverage beginning 10:30 a.m., $10/adult, $5/children (10 and under); drive thru and carry out starting at 10 a.m., outside food booths, mock turtle soup, hamburgers/cheeseburgers, homemade potato chips, authentic fajitas and tacos, lemon shake ups, ice cream floats; Grand Raffle with $7,500 in cash prizes, quilts, pick a prize raffle, free inflatables for kids, country store, theme basket raffle, bingo, music entertainment on the plaza and Activity Center; 5K run/walk, June 3.

June 4, Sunday, St. Joseph Parish, Princeton, Strawberry Festival, 11:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m., festival includes BBQ Dinner in A/C gym featuring Dewig’s BBQ, kid-zone featuring games and inflatable water slide, basket raffle, Chinese auction, corn-hole tournament and games of chance; food choices include hamburgers and hot dogs, strawberry pies (whole pie or by the slice) and chocolate-dipped strawberries; for information call 812-385-2617.

June 22, 23 and 24, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Good Shepherd Parish,

Evansville, grounds open 5–10 p.m. nightly; fried chicken and pork chop dinners with

homemade chicken and dumplings and all the trimmings served nightly from 5-7 p.m. in

July 4th, Tuesday, St. John the Evangelist Parish, St. Mary Church Hall, Shoals, BBQ Pork Roast dinner, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., includes sandwich, chips, dessert and a drink;  BBQ by the pound available for purchase; quilt and cash raffle.

July 9, Sunday, St. Matthew Parish, Mount Vernon, grounds open 11 a.m.-9 p.m.; serving fried chicken, or pork chop with corn, green beans, roll, mashed potatoes and gravy, dumplings, dessert, drink, $9/adult, $7/children 12 and under, carry out available; paddle wheel, children’s activities and games, live entertainment, food booths, inflatables; $10,000 Big Money Raffle drawing will be held at the end of the evening.

July 16, Sunday, St. Martin 1 Parish, St. John Chrysostom Church, New Boston, roast beef and fried chicken dinners beginning at 10 a.m. in A/C Fr. July 30, Sunday, St. Francis Xavier Parish, Vincennes, Summer Picnic begins at 11 a.m. serving famous Fricassee and fried chicken dinners and jumbo hamburgers in A/C Highland Woods Community Center and Highland Woods Park; Carry-out available; theme baskets, games and prizes for kids; all are welcome for good food, fun and fellowship.

July 30, Sunday, St. Joseph Parish, Vanderburgh County, Come spend a day in the country and enjoy our famous Chicken Dinners served family style with all the trimmings, beginning 10:30 a.m., carry outs available; win beautiful quilts, grand raffle prizes, hand crafted items and lavish theme baskets; play bingo and enjoy other games of chance while eating hamburgers, fried pickles, onion rings, pronto pups, delicious ice cream and peaches; special games and fun for children.

AUGUST

August 6, Sunday, St. James Parish, Haubstadt, Mass times 7 and 9 a.m.; serving chicken or roast beef buffet dinners starting at 10:30 a.m. in A/C Madden Hall, handicapped accessible, carry out available; $1,500 money prizes will be given away, handmade quilts plus “Quilt of the Month” tickets for sale; burgoo (bring your own containers), ice cream, shakes, lunch stand, paddle wheel, adult and children’s auction, Country Store, silent auction, bingo, over 30  theme baskets, Pedal Pull, kids’ games, dunk booth;  $25 hourly attendance prizes starting at noon.

August 12 and 13, Saturday and Sunday, St. Philip Parish, Posey County, serving pork chop dinner Saturday, 5-7:30 p.m., fried chicken dinner Sunday, 10:30 a.m.- 2 p.m.; dinners served in A/C cafeteria, drive-thru available both days; sandwiches, ice cream, pizza, A/C bingo, paddle wheel, pull tabs, big raffle, inflatables, special raffles, theme baskets, quilts, children’s games and more.

 

August 19, Saturday, St. Bernard Parish, Rockport, grounds open 4 p.m. - 11 p.m.; outside food tent with snack booths; menu includes fried chicken, roast beef, dumplings, hamburgers, tenderloins, mock turtle soup, carry out available; children’s play zone, quilt raffles, grocery giveaway, money wheel, cake stand, bingo, dime pitch, coke toss, silent auction.

 

August 20, Sunday, Precious Blood Parish, Jasper, serving indoor all you can eat family style fried chicken, roast beef, chicken and dumplings, dressing, mashed potatoes , corn green beans, tomatoes, cake and beverage beginning 10 a.m., $12/adults, $6/children under 12, $9/drive thru chicken dinners; outside dining; mock turtle soup by the gallon; Activities begin at 10:30 a.m., quilts, bingo, kid’s games, basket raffle, silent auction, country store, special quilt raffle, raffle for TV & iPad, grand raffle with grand prize of $3,000.00; for information, call 812-482-4461.

August 27, Sunday,  Christ the King Parish, St. Ferdinand Church, Ferdinand, Picnic 11 a.m. -  4 p.m., serving chicken dinners with trimmings, carry out available; mock turtle soup  (bowl or bulk), rides, inflatables, quilt raffle, bingo, silent auction, food court, games for children and adults; Annual Car Show, Registration 9 AM-12 p.m., awards 3 p.m. Car Show registration (until July 1) $10, registration on day of car show, $15; Call parish office, 812-367-1212 for information.
