God Is Interconnectedness

DEACON JOHN PFISTER

I am a person who sees interconnectedness.  I feel God the Father and cooperate with the movement of the Holy Spirit.  In our experiences, people show us the face of Christ.  I see God active in my encounters in hospitals, jails, prisons, elder-care facilities, schools, parishes, over-the-road and in homes; God is interconnectedness.

Empathetic compassion is one of my traits; some call me a “feeler.”  In my vocation, I have gained friends from around the globe.   Compassion and empathy are exercised as mercy.  The desire to minister pastoral care brings us to every person regardless of age, race, color, richness, or poorness.  Even though I feel deeply, prayer helps me discern God’s will.  Prudence assists me by balancing my feelings with the right use of reason.

I consider myself an open person, open to new experiences, points of view, and seeing through the eyes of the ‘other.’ I strive to see the good in every person.  The peace and love of Christ ARE the standard to which Christians live, and openness allows me to find meaning, even when it is not initially clear.  Openness allows me to enjoy a variety of novels, movies, music, foods, and cultures.  Good conversation is always fruitful, and meaningful dialogue opens and invites me to move beyond simple self-centeredness.

The Bible is central to my spirituality.  I have studied the Bible individually and in a wide variety of group settings.  God’s word is a cause for celebration and is key to our understanding of his most sacred Word, our Lord Jesus Christ.  Bible study moves me forward in my faith life; not only that, but Bible study is fun!

Reading and writing are a great joy for me.  I love old-fashioned written correspondence, and I have quite a few incarcerated Christians I write periodically.  I dabble in poetry and story-telling, and I thrive on experimenting with the way words fit together to add to the listening experience.  Meditation and contemplation of scripture, prayer, and the Holy Spirit guide my writing.

It is exciting to begin a new chapter in my life.  Pray for me as I join every Catholic who constantly moves forward according to the universal call to holiness.  Come walk with me and other Christians from all over the world as we answer the command of Jesus Christ: to love God more than anything else and to love our neighbor as ourselves.
