Catholic Foundation Sets Seminar On Impact Of New Tax Law

By

How do the changes in the tax law impact my estate plan and charitable-giving plan?

Most people give out of a desire to help a particular charity or cause. Tax incentives, then, are not the primary motivation for philanthropy, particularly when it comes to supporting religious organizations.

You may, however, be wondering how the new tax law will affect your giving. Some questions to consider are: Is my donation still tax deductible? Will I still itemize? What are alternatives or options to maximize my tax savings?

According to Certified Financial Planner Chris Staples, “The key today with estate and tax planning, as it has been for the last several years, is ensuring that your plans are current and flexible enough to work in a variety of tax landscapes. If you and your family have significant assets that you want to transition while maximizing tax benefits, you should regularly review your plans with your estate counsel or tax advisor.”

For insight into the new tax law and how it might affect your giving strategy, please join the Catholic Foundation for a complimentary Will, Estate Planning and Charitable Giving presentation on Sept. 21.

Two sessions will be held. The first will be at 8:30 a.m. EDT at St. Joseph Parish in Jasper, and the second will be at Noon CST at St. John the Baptist Parish in Newburgh.  The same information will be presented, and a light meal will be served, at each session.

We are pleased to welcome Staples, an attorney and trust and estate planner, who will share advice on estate planning and charitable giving.   He has more than 18 years of experience in trust and estate planning.

Staples received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northern Kentucky University and his law degree from the University of Louisville.  He has served in the U.S. Navy and the Naval Reserves. His presentation will cover general estate planning with a focus on the new tax law and the possible impact on your personal estate plans. This event is open to all.
