Pope Francis has proclaimed 2015 a Year of Consecrated Life, formally beginning on the First Sunday of Advent, the weekend of Nov. 29, and ending on Feb. 2, 2016, the World Day of Consecrated Life.

Bishop Charles C. Thompson will mark the beginning of this special celebration with a Mass at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 23 at St. Benedict Cathedral in Evansville. All are welcome to attend.

The year also marks the 50th anniversary of “Perfectae Caritatis,” a decree on religious life, and “Lumen Gentium,” the Second Vatican Council’s constitution on the Church. Its purpose, as stated by the Vatican is to “make a grateful remembrance of the recent past” while embracing “the future with hope.”

Look for coverage of the Nov. 23 Mass in the Nov. 28 issue of The Message, and look for more news throughout the Year of Consecrated Life.
