Two Diocesan Catholic Schools

By The Message Staff

Superintendent of Schools Daryl Hagan announced on Dec. 17 that two diocesan Catholic schools have reimbursed the Choice Scholarship Program a total of less than $8,400 as part of the statewide reconciliation.

“The possibility of overpayments came to light through ongoing efforts to train school administrators on adherence to the dynamic, complex guidelines associated with the Choice Scholarship Program,” Hagan explained.

“Our thorough review was part of the statewide process, which was independently verified. It confirmed that two of our 28 schools received overpayments totaling less than $8,400, which is .002 percent of the statewide total.

“Those schools have reimbursed the overpayments in full, and the Catholic Schools Office continues to work closely with pastors and school administrators to prevent similar overpayments from occurring in the future.”

“For the past three years, Indiana’s Choice Scholarship Program has provided significant educational opportunities to families that otherwise would not have the opportunity to select schools that best fit their needs,” Bishop Charles C. Thompson said.

“I am grateful to the pastors, administrators, faculty and staff of our 28 parish schools for providing outstanding Catholic education while achieving Choice Scholarship compliance and maintaining the highest possible level of stewardship.”
