Christmas Letter 2014
Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ:
On behalf of Bishop-emeritus Gerald A. Gettelfinger and myself, I take this opportunity to wish everyone a Blessed Christmas and New Year! There is no greater joy on this earth than to encounter the very person of Jesus Christ, made possible through the Christmas event, the Incarnation of God becoming one like us in all things but sin. In Him, we experience the compassion of divine love and mercy, our salvation.
Like the Magi, may we graciously share our gifts of time, talent and treasure in glorifying the Holy Trinity through worship and service. Like the shepherds, may we dare to go beyond our comfort zones by placing all our hope and trust in God. Like Mary and Joseph, may we take notice of our blessings, treasuring them in our hearts.
While this time of year holds great opportunity to celebrate with family and friends, let us not overlook those in most need of our attention. The most precious gift we have to offer another is the gift of presence. May we be particularly present to the person of Jesus Christ in the poor, the sick, the immigrant, the elderly, the homeless, the lonely, victims of abuse and addiction, and all who are vulnerable. May our adoration of Emmanuel, God-With-Us, be complimented by our defense of dignity and sacredness of life from the moment of conception to natural death, including every moment in between these pivotal moments of being human.
Come, let us adore Him, Christ the Lord! With deepest assurance of my prayer, gratitude and best wishes for all, I remain

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:
A nombre de Obispo emérito Gerald A. Gettelfinger y yo, ¡aprovecho esta oportunidad para desearles a todos una bendita Navidad y Nuevo Año! No hay mayor alegría en esta tierra que el encuentro a la persona de Jesucristo, hecho posible a través del evento de Navidad, la Encarnación de Dios haciéndose uno como nosotros en todas cosas excepto del pecado. En Él, experimentamos la compasión de amor y misericordia divina, nuestra salvación.
Como los magos, compartamos graciosamente nuestros regalos de tiempo, talento y tesoro en glorificar la Santa Trinidad por la adoración y el servicio. Como los pastores, vámonos fuera de nuestras zonas de comodidad para poner toda nuestra esperanza y confianza en Dios. Como María y José, notemos nuestras bendiciones, atesorándolas en nuestros corazones.
Mientras que esta temporada del año tiene gran oportunidad para celebrar con familia y amigos, no nos olvidemos a los necesitados. El regalo más precioso que tenemos para ofrecer es el regalo de presencia. Estemos presentes particularmente a la persona de Jesucristo en los pobres, los enfermos, los inmigrantes, los ancianos, aquellos sin hogar, los solitarios, las víctimas del abuso y la adicción y todos los que son vulnerables. Que nuestra adoración de Emanuel sea complementada por nuestra defensa de dignidad y santidad de vida del momento de la concepción a la muerte natural, incluyendo a cada momento entre estos momentos esenciales de ser humano.
