God Wants To Be In ALL Of Your Life

By Kate Bittner

Sometimes we might assume that God is only one aspect of our lives. We might compartmentalize him and push him into the religion box – keeping him separate from our relationships, our work or school lives, and all other areas. But the amazing thing about God is that he doesn’t want to be a tiny part of your life; he wants to be a part of your every moment and every aspect of your life. He is so divinely vast and so madly in love with us that he wants to be a part of our friendships, our homework, our work promotions, our vacations, our morning drives, our nights out with friends, our time watching television or reading a book. He wants to be with you every moment to share in your joys and your pain, your disappointments and excitements. He doesn’t want to only be acknowledged once a week for an hour. He wants to be the smile you give to strangers and the light in your eyes when you speak about something you’re passionate about.

His purpose of revealing himself to us is not so that he can control us or count our every wrongdoing. Instead, he became a part of our lives and adopted us as his sons and daughters so that we can share in the joy that he radiates, the peace that he gives, and the love that he is. “I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10). People might say that the idea of believing in God stresses them out too much or makes their lives more difficult and less carefree; but in my experience, my life would be very much hopeless and faded without his love running through my veins and his presence ever present in the everyday. He came to enrich our lives and allow them to become the fullest they can be. The bible and his commandments are not rules and restrictions but rather guidelines to help us become the best version of ourselves we can possibly be.

He came to help us fulfill our potentials through the strength of his grace and the guidance of his discipline. We truly can do “all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13). It is through his influence that we can be the most loving, successful, and joyful people on the earth. We can be wonderful and kind people without him, but with him we can be so much more. He brings the ability for greatness to a new level and gives that excellence actual value. He gives meaning to our purpose.

He wants us to be incredibly successful people, and sometimes we might assume that God and success are unable to be on the same page. But he truly wants us to be happy and to have a purpose in life. He has the ability to enhance our drive and determination, no matter what area of interest. “For I know well the plans I have in mind for you … plans for your welfare and not for woe, so as to give you a future of hope” (Jeremiah 29:11). He wants to help us achieve a future full of promise and success. He doesn’t want each one of us to be all priests or all nuns; each one of us was created with a unique skillset and predisposition for becoming great in different areas. These areas can even be business or politics or customer service. Each action we take can glorify God and bring his kingdom here on earth. He is not limited to the church building or to those who choose religious life. He can be truly present and glorified through us in any career or studies.

So be not afraid if you think your life may be too ordinary. For God can be found in even the most unlikely places. And everything you do can bring glory to him and bring the light of Christ to a world in need of hope.
